About The Schools: Southington has one of Connecticut's largest public school systems: approximately 6,800 students in grades K-12; 32 certified administrators, 550 teachers; Nine neighborhood elementary schools which serve 3,000 students in grades K-5; Two middle schools which serve 1,600 students each in grades 6-8; Southington High School, with a 55-acre campus, serves 1,900 students in grades 9-12; High school and middle schools are accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges.
Blue Ribbon School: The school system takes great pride in the designation of Southington High School as a national Blue Ribbon School of Excellence as selected by the U.S. Department of Education.
School Match: Southington's schools have been recognized by School Match, a national firm that assists corporations and individuals in identifying high quality school systems, as one of its "What Parents Want" award-winners. Only 9% of the nation's school systems have been chosen for this 1994 honor. Southington schools have been selected again for this honor in 2003.
National Business Magazine: The Southington School system has been selected by National Business Magazine Expansion Management as a Gold Medal recipient with towns such as Fairfield, Greenwich and West Hartford. Award based on academic accountability measures such as SAT scores and graduation rates.
General Information: The Southington School system is truly an educational and community enterprise. Its small classes and specialized programming ensure individual attention to student needs. Southington students consistently score well above national and state averages on standardized testing. Over 74% of graduating seniors go on to some post-secondary education, 63% of them to four-year colleges, and 11% to two-year colleges. Students in college prep courses perform exceptionally well on the SAT and 95% of these students are admitted to their first or second choice colleges. Students at all levels enter a variety of statewide, regional and national academic competitions. Southington's athletic program is varied and extensive with full middle school intramural and interscholastic sports programs; 23 high school sports; 14 freshman sports; and over 15 state championships in the past 10 years. Southington also offers a wide variety of clubs and organizations for students at all levels. Additionally, the Southington Public School prides itself on offering a full range of services for learning and physically handicapped students.

Southington is home to three private educational facilities, Central Christian Academy, 621-6701 (grades K-12); St. Dominic, 628-4678 (pre K and K-5); and St. Thomas, 628-2485 (pre K and K-5). Families wishing to obtain information regarding school curriculums may contact their offices at the numbers listed above.
Lincoln College (2279 Mt. Vernon Road, 628-4751) is a private two-year coeducational college granting an Associates Degree in Applied Science. It is nestled at the base of Mt. Southington on a picturesque 32 acre campus. There are 576 students presently enrolled in the College. Approximately one-fifth of the students live on campus. Briarwood is accredited by the Board of Higher Education of the State of Connecticut, and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Lincoln College offers thirteen one-year certificate programs, and twenty-six two-year degree programs.
Branford Hall Career Institute will be celebrating 40 years of training Connecticut students for careers in Allied Health, Computer Technology and Paralegal Studies. Conveniently located in downtown Southington (35 N. Main St.) the school is housed in a renovated 3 story professional building, that provides a relaxed and friendly environment for students to pursue their career goals. Accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges of Schools, Branford Hall Career Institute offers students the opportunity to develop their potential by training on industry current equipment and curriculum. An active Career Services Department provides candidates with individual and group counseling to assist in securing entry-level positions in their chosen field of endeavor.
