A Productive Place to
Do Business >> |
| Located
in a small, affluent New England state, Southington has a rich
tradition of manufacturing employment peppered with
high-skilled machinists, doctoral engineers, insurance
analysts, and health care professionals. Our superlative
educational system, affordable and plentiful housing, and a
reasonable cost of living make Southington the place to do
business.
Our
workforce is the best you will find anywhere. A recent issue
of World Trade magazine ranked Connecticut third in
productivity. From the medical industry to aircraft engines to
financial services, our workers will hit the ground running
and take your business to a new level of excellence.
Unlike
most of New England, Southington's population grew by 10% in
the last ten years. Per capita income is 30% higher than the
U.S. average -- $19,955. Southington's poverty rate is less
than half the state's, and the town's crime rate is 50% less
than the rest of Connecticut. Property taxes are considerably
lower than the state when measured by per capita and
residential sales figures. Median housing prices are 4% lower
in Southington than in a typical Connecticut community.
More
than 28% of our total employment was in manufacturing in 1993
compared to 19% for the rest of the state. Over 60% of
Southington's manufacturing employment is in fabricated metals
and aircraft - specializing in high-skilled precision
manufacturing. Nearly 22% of our residents are college
graduates, and increasing numbers are attending two-year and
professional colleges to upgrade workforce skills.
For
a more detailed demographic report, e-mail develop@cityofprogress.com
now, or contact the Southington Chamber of Commerce's Economic
Development Marketing Committee. In 2004, the Chamber
and the Town of Southington agreed to partnership a marketing
effort which would result in radio promotional spots in
Waterbury; a new billboard on busy Route 10 on Queen Street,
placement of 12 identification signs indicating the Town's IT
zone or Information Technology tax credits for companies
locating within these areas of Southington. The
committee has also hosted breakfast seminars with economic
specialists from other communities. In September 2004,
the Town officially welcomed a new economic coordinator, Louis
Perillo III of Southington. |
